2023 : Seminar with Papu Siameja Sensei

by Li Jing
Our long-awaited Aikido event, the seminar with Papu Siameja Sensei, took place successfully on May 13th and 14th in Beijing. Papu Sensei (5th Dan), from the Cambridge branch of Shinryukan Dojo in New Zealand, made a special trip to Beijing from Shanghai, bringing everyone an unforgettable learning experience in Aikido.

The seminar was held at two venues, the Haidian Dojo and the 27th Yard Dojo, spanning two days. More than 20 members from Shinryukan Beijing and friends from other dojos attended the event. On the first day of the seminar, we gathered at the Haidian Dojo. Papu Sensei explained some fundamental techniques, providing a deeper understanding of the basic principles of Aikido through clear demonstrations and vivid explanations. In a second step, he encouraged participants to experiment freely with these techniques in order to explore the various possibilities in Aikido in practice. Everyone participated actively and learned with Papu Sensei with curiosity and passion.

On the second day, we moved to the 27th Yard to continue our learning journey. Papu Sensei continued his teaching style from the previous day, not only explaining basic movements but also delving into many details and more complex techniques. He integrated precision and fluidity, gradually helping everyone to experience the harmony and flow that Aikido pursues. With patience and love for Aikido, he guided each participant to continuously break through their limitations and expand their boundaries through practice.

In addition to learning and practice, this seminar provided a rare opportunity for everyone to connect and engage. After Saturday's training, we all enjoyed a delicious Peking duck dinner with Papu Sensei and his wife. Sitting around the table, laughter and joy filled the air as we shared our Aikido insights and experiences.

This seminar not only allowed beginners to grasp the basic skills of Aikido but also provided experienced students with an opportunity for further improvement. Papu Sensei patiently guided each individual, helping them overcome challenges and explore higher levels of technique through individual instruction and group practice. Whether a novice or an experienced student, everyone can find their own space for growth and enjoy the physical and mental balance and harmony that Aikido brings.

We would like to express our gratitude to everyone who participated in the seminar and together created this unforgettable journey of Aikido. We look forward to more exciting events in the future, where we can come together once again to explore the beauty and infinite possibilities of Aikido.
